Project description
The idea of Chinatown was born out of of a comprehensive studies of the Newtown neighborhood district functional renewal and regeneration . The basic idea - a number of itself developing local Chinese mini-centres in Newtown district, that creates due to a common local real estate prices. It is true to believe that the random location of centers is affected by the Chinese Embassy, bus, railway stations and airport in the closest neighbourhood. It is Considering the fact that the emerging of the Chinatown block will help in raising both economic and tourism level. The Block location is chosen by chance in the ž the boundary between the New and the Old Town. The idea is to create a Chinese cultural cradle in city of Vilnius by modeling a square, to develop mass attraction for possible events and trade.
The solutions of Chinatown were made up by four individual architecture students. This file contains one author project. The 2 chosen objects from the whole urban density solution are detailed : 1 – Building-square, the idea based on a Chinese lantern and origami – Mediatheque-building and Info box. All proper function takes place in the three-dimensional cube combination, enveloped by a conceptual origami shell. The building was designed as a coated square, easily passable and crossed.
Second building – Chinese arts center with a library, gallery and educational center. The four-storey building designed as a cultural cradle. It is transformed and softened to include the outside perimeter into the building inner space by creating a semi-open amphitheater – cradles in the both ends of the building.
